Weight by Size for Raised Decks

Typical decks are design to hold 50 pounds per square foot.  Be sure to assume weight is also added by soil, pots, garden boxes etc. For example for an 8x8 greenhouse at 64 square feet x 50 lbs per square feet, it can bear up to 3,200 lbs of weight maximum.

• 8x8: 229 lbs + 500 lbs of soil/pots + 2 people = 1,000 lbs (3,200 lbs capacity)
• 8x12: 284 lbs + 1000 lbs of soil/pots + 3 people = 1,750 lbs (4,800 lbs capacity)
• 8x16: 339 lbs + 1500 lbs of soil/pots + 4 people = 2,800 lbs (6,400 lbs capacity)
• 8x20: 394 lbs + 2000 lbs of soil/pots + 4 people = 3,350 lbs (8,000 lbs capacity)
